Lajos Kozma Circa 1909 Illustrations

Lajos Kozma

I absolutely adore line work. This is particularly interesting to me because there seems to be so much going on in certain sections but there's still so much negative space within the composition. The meaning behind it is so complex, or so it would seem, which somewhat reflects the way that the illustration is done since it is a very intricate piece. The face of those in the composition look frightened, minus the relatively Mara looking character in the corner. It come's across rather spiritual, a little like tarot cards. The space is interesting, yet quite frustrating as appose to a nice break from the complexity of the image.

The way this is set out is a little more satisfying. The negative space is relatively comfortable and gives a lot more chill of a vibe, as appose to the above imagery. The actual focal point is off centre, going from the typical mis on scene of the focal point being central. This could reflect how the person would be feeling, since they're lifeless and tied up - insignificant and unimportant. It's certainly an interesting piece and I would like to try and do something that would make people truly question what's going on in the composition.
